On 29th September 2026, Prayatn Sanstha organized a nutrition awareness activity at Kewatam Gram Panchayat, Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, under the SBI Sanjeevani – Clinic on Wheels project, with the financial support of SBI Foundation, to re-emphasize importance of proper nutrition as part of Rashtriya Poshan Maah celebration 2026.

During the activity Medical Officer Mr. Yash Sharma explained that good nutrition is essential for maintaining health, supporting physical and cognitive development and preventing nutrition-related health problems. He encouraged community members to include a variety of locally available and nutritious foods in their daily meals, such as pulses, cereals, green leafy vegetables, seasonal fruits, vegetables and other protein-rich foods.

Project Officer Mr. Lokesh Yadav also emphasized the importance of maternal nutrition during pregnancy and after childbirth, highlighting that mothers need adequate and nutritious food to maintain their own health and support the healthy growth and development of their children. Community members were encouraged to pay particular attention to the nutritional needs of young children, adolescent girls and pregnant and lactating women.

The MMU team further discussed the importance of personal hygiene and regular handwashing, particularly before preparing or eating food and after using the toilet. Participants were encouraged to maintain clean surroundings and adopt simple hygiene practices at the household level to reduce the risk of infections and support overall family health.

As part of the activity, 30 lactating mothers with young babies were provided with “Poshan and Hygiene Kits “containing essential nutrition and hygiene items, including chickpeas, soybeans, multigrain porridge and handwashing soap. The distribution was intended to reinforce the messages shared during the awareness session and encourage families to incorporate nutritious food and hygiene practices into their daily routines.
The programme witnessed the active participation of 120 community members, including Gram Pradhan Shri Ram, Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) Ms. Duiji and Anganwadi Sahayika Ms. Hira Vati.
