As a development initiative for the farmers of Gop block of Puri District (Odisha), Prayatn, with the financial support of HDFC Bank PARIVARTAN, organized a three days long residential training program for them in three batches on the theme ‘Improved Crop cultivation’ under the Holistic Rural Development Program.
The objective of the training was to make the farmers aware of better crop varieties and farming practices, which will result in increased crop production and, thereby, increased income sustainably. During the sessions, farmers have been trained exhaustively on the importance of soil testing, land treatment, selection and treatment of seeds, weed management, selection of fertilizers, disease management, proper storage of different crops, the right process of harvesting, the right process of implantation, challenges and difficulties in marketing etc.
Participants were blessed by the intensified sessions by Mr Sarad Kumar, DAO (District Agriculture Officer), Mr Nakul Mallik, BAO (Block Agriculture Officer), Mr Shrikant Badhoi, BTM (Block Technology Manager) and Mr Chandarshekhar, Mr Jitendra Pradhan and Mr Bipin Kumar Sahoo (Agriculture Officers) in all 3 batches of the training.
Mr Satish Kumar Singh (Project Manager), Mr Tarun Kumar, Mr Manojit Bera, and Mr Pawan Kumar (Thematic Experts of Prayatn) acted as internal resource persons for the training.
The sessions were then followed by a 1-day field exposure visit to the Government Agricultural Farm at Subornpur village under the guidance of Farm Manager, Mr K. C. Sahoo while elucidating the understanding of multiple crop cultivation procedures on farming systems and were exposed to various types of cropping practices like horticulture, pisciculture, and vegetable and paddy cultivation along with mixed cropping and integrated cropping practices.
The training was organized from 04th to 12th June 2022 in 03 batches covering 102 farmers, from the field, where Prayatn is working. When the training concluded, they all thanked Prayatn for organizing the training and assured that they will put the improved cropping practices learnt into practice and enhance their income from farming in sustainable manner.
