On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, observed on 3rd December 2025, Prayatn Sanstha, with the support of SBI Foundation under the SBI Sanjeevani – Clinic on Wheels initiative, organized an awareness activity at Baradand village of Nagwa block in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh.
A total of 118 community members participated in the program, including 39 women and 79 men. Two persons with disabilities were given a warm welcome by offering floral garlands, symbolizing inclusion and respect.
Project Officer Mr. Sundar Singh highlighted that the purpose of observing this day is to ensure dignity, equality, healthcare access, education, employment and full social participation of persons with disabilities. He emphasized the need for continued awareness so that society understands their rights and extends support with empathy.
He also provided information on key government schemes including disability pension, assistive devices, reserved travel facilities, marriage assistance, financial support, skill development programs and special education institutions. Participants were encouraged to obtain disability certificates from the district for availing these benefits.
He further mentioned that societal perception has changed significantly where once disability was seen as a burden, today persons with disabilities bring pride to families and communities through achievements in sports, academics, arts and various competitions.
MMU team members motivated families to ensure complete immunization and timely health check-ups for children. They also advised that in case of developmental delays or suspected disability, immediate medical consultation should be sought, as early intervention can greatly improve long-term outcomes.
