Under the joint auspices of Prayatn Sanstha and the Police Department, a one-day sensitization workshop was organized in the police line complex auditorium on 17th July 2022, under Project ‘Moving Ahead’ implemented with the financial support of KKS (Karl Kübel Stiftung, Germany) on the role and responsibilities of SJPU (Special Juvenile Police Unit) and AHTU (Anti-Human Trafficking Unit) under JJ Act and other laws.
The program was presided over by Mr. Bachan Singh Meena, DySP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) and insisted to the participants that with the teamwork of the Government, NGOs, and the structure of child protection, the Dholpur district has to be made child protected. He has assured full cooperation from the Child Welfare Police Officers and indeed he guaranteed to support the organization for the safeguard of children. The Chief Guest of honor Mr. Vishwa Dev Pandey, Assistant Director of the Child Welfare Department, briefed the amendments made in POCSO and Juvenile Justice Act, on the occasion.
While welcoming the officials, Mrs. Rajni Jain, Dhaulpur Field office-in-charge of Prayatn, initiatives being undertaken by the organiation for ensuring child rights and child protection in Bharatpur division. Mr. Mukesh Kumar Kaushik, Project Officer of Prayatn, then, briefed the partcipants about the objectives of the workshop and how capacity building of members of SJPU and Child Welfare Officers is essential for ensuring child protection in the district. Subsequently, Assistant Project Officer Mr. Mohammad Khuloos Khan, adequately detailed the roles and responsibilities of Child Welfare Police Officers, Special Juvenile Police Unit, and Anti-Human Trafficking Unit under Juvenile Justice Act and related laws like Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, etc.
Coordinators of District Childline Mrs. Reen Tyagi, and Railway Childline, Mr. Surnaam Singh, in Dhaulpur, who too are from Prayatn, explained the role being played by the emergency helpline in protection of children and what support is expected from the CWOs and SJPU in this regard as per JJ Act.
Through this workshop, SJPU officers could boost their confidence to deal with issues of children, who are in conflict with the law, child victims as well as child witnesses who come in contact with justice system in a proper manner. A total of 42 (39 male, 03 female) members participated in the workshop along with members of SJPU, AHTU, Labor Inspector representative, other NGO partners, and Prayatn staff from the district.
